“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof.” Psalms 46: 1-3

Since early Monday morning on the 6th of February, our area has been affected after a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria. A second quake, which recorded a magnitude of 7.5, struck just 9 hours later.

Both countries at the center are still reeling from the devastating aftermath. So far, more than 47,000 people have been killed; the number exceeded 5,500 in Syria alone, as a result of the quakes, and tens of thousands more have been injured. Thousands of buildings have also been reduced to rubble.

The scenes in Syria are overwhelming, which called our local church to action! Today, we have a main relief role in Syria in order to provide vital humanitarian aid. Every Home for Christ was fast to act and 3000 families received immediate help through our ministry in Aleppo. Every Home’s team there is providing food, medications and heating devices, as well as helping relocate homeless people. We are working on the ground as well in cooperation with local churches.

In addition to that, our New Nation team is fully ready to travel to Aleppo and Lattaquié from Beirut next week in order to help 500 families. We will be providing food, medications and heating supplies as well. Our effort is not limited to humanitarian aids only, we also provide psychological and spiritual support and share the love of God with them.

In these difficult times, let us have the Heart of Jesus. He who fed the hungry, who showed sympathy and compassion on the brokenhearted and who was near to those crushed in spirit!
